Voice

Here are several versions of the same voice recording. The original recording was made on a Sony Digital 8 camcorder with an external monaural microphone on one channel of a stereo pair at 16 bit, 44khz. Using a Firewire connection I downloaded the video (and audio) into IMovie2 and extracted the audio. I then opened the extracted stereo audio file in SoundEdit 16, deleted the unused audio channel leaving a monaural recording. I edited the 1 minute 5 second recording down to exactly 1 minute by shortening some pauses and taking out some inhaling breaths. I saved it twice - once as a AIF file and also as a WAV file. These files are 5.5 Mb.

RealPlayer - (128 K, 16 kps 8 khz mono) requires RealMedia Player (launchs the player)

RealAudio Page - (128 K, 16 kps 8 khz mono) requires RealMedia browser plug-in (the controller is embedded on the page)

QuickTime Streaming Audio - (108 K, Qualcom PureVoice 16 bit 8 khz mono) requires QuickTime 4 or above plug-in and System Extensions (the controller is embedded on the page)

 

Music

Here are several versions of the same piano music (Fizz Water Rag by Eubie Blake).

MIDI - (16 K) plays in most browsers, uses computer's MIDI instrument sounds

Shockwave Streaming Audio - (772 K) requires ShockWave plug-in (the controller is embedded on the page)

RealPlayer - (828 K) requires RealMedia Player (launchs the player)

QuickTime Streaming Audio - (1.3 MB) requires QuickTime 4 or above plug-in and System Extensions (the controller is embedded on the page)
